IISc and Indian Navy Collaborate on Aviation Research, CIO News, ET CIO
Bengaluru, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Navy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate in aviation research and development and to intensify the self-reliance efforts of the Indian Navy, in line with the objectives of Atmanirbhar Bharat, IISc officials said. Saturday.
The MoU provides a formal basis for the Indian Navy to interact with relevant IISc faculty members and will foster joint research programs in areas of mutual interest.
The MoU was signed by Captain Sridhar Warrier, Registrar, IISc and Captain P Vinayagam, Captain (APP), Indian Navy on Friday in the presence of senior naval officials including Rear Admiral Deepak Bansal, VSM , ACNS (Air Materiel), and Commodore Raja Vinod, Commodore Superintendent, NAY (Goa), excluding other senior Indian Navy officers. Also present on occasion were the chairs of several departments of the Division of Mechanical Sciences and the IISc Research Grants Office.
Areas of collaboration under this MoU will fall within the field of aerospace/aeronautical engineering, including education design and technology. Specializations that will be targeted include propulsion and propulsion systems, steel technology, metallurgy and materials science, and corrosion science; Systems and controls, instrumentation and sensors; Environmental science and engineering, energy science and engineering; Management (technical and logistics), industrial engineering and operational research, nanotechnology and MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems), artificial intelligence, data analysis and machine learning.
“It is a privilege for us to collaborate with the Indian Navy in these important areas of mutual interest. We look forward to the many exciting research and development results that will result from this partnership,” said Capt Warrier.
The collaboration will also foster regular interactions between IISc faculty members and Indian Navy officers.
