Singapore Airlines to dramatically increase operations from Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi, ET TravelWorld News, ET TravelWorld

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will significantly increase its flight operations from South India in the coming months, which will mean more flights from Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi to Singapore. The airline also announced a special fare promotion for travel from Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi to destinations across Asia.

While five weekly flights will continue from Ahmedabad, SIA will increase its services from Kochi from daily to twice daily, starting August 2. From September 1, the airline will increase its operations to Chennai from the current 10 times per week to 17 times per week and operations to Hyderabad will increase from daily to 11 times per week.

Commenting on the development, Sy Yen Chen, Managing Director India for Singapore Airlines, said: “We are steadily restoring our operations in India to pre-Covid levels to meet the strong travel demand. These special fares and increased capacity from Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi will provide our customers with many attractive options to choose from when planning their overseas vacations in the coming months. We hope to inspire even more confidence in international travel to and from India through our initiatives.

The Singapore pilot, announced in November 2021, aims to advance the use of SAF in Singapore. It follows a study by the Singapore government and industry players into the operational and commercial viability of using SAF at Changi Airport. This is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2,500 tonnes.

From August 1, 2022, Singapore Airlines will operate 80 flights per week from eight cities in India and will continue to gradually increase its frequency to pre-Covid levels in the coming months.

Customers planning to travel from Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi to Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and other Asian countries in the SIA network can avail promotional fares by booking tickets up to to August 5. From Ahmedabad and Kochi, fares are available for travel between August 2 and March 31, 2023, while from Chennai and Hyderabad, fares are available for travel between September 2 and March 31, 2023.
